This funky and fun mid-century modern wedding reception was everything Kathryn and Carleton dreamed of when they got married a year before. Unfortunately (like many couples), Covid forced them to rework their wedding plans. The year prior, Kathryn and Carleton tied the knot with a very small guest list in attendance. Although they loved their intimate ceremony they knew they wanted to celebrate big time with all their favorite people!
If you haven’t heard, small and intimate ceremonies have become incredibly popular post-Covid! This is definitely a trend we can get behind. Over the years, we’ve heard many couples mention how they’d kept their vows and ceremony private, or had a very limited guest count. For many couples, having just their closest friends and family around helps relieve any nerves that come along with the wedding ceremony. It can also make the entire moment more special! But of course, many couples prefer to celebrate by throwing a big party with everyone they love! There’s no right or wrong way to get married. It’s YOUR day, after all!
Mid-Century Modern Wedding Flowers
Kathryn and Carleton’s mid-century modern wedding reception is the perfect inspiration for any couple looking to host a celebratory get-together with all of their family and friends. The reception took place at The Plant at Kyle which is a fun, modern, and architecturally focused venue. From the moment we stepped foot on the property we were obsessed! It was so fun visiting this venue and seeing how Kathryn and Carleton chose to bring their reception to life.
Our couple didn’t feel another ceremony was necessary, so they focused most of their budget on good food and an AMAZING band. It made the entire night so much fun! Even though Kathryn and Carleton didn’t have a grand ceremony, that didn’t stop us from designing a bold installation for their large wooden triangle backdrop. We created two fabulous floral sprays with bright vibrant reds, peaches, and greenery. It was a beautiful spot that guests took photos at all night long!
A Fun, Bold Color Palette
For the reception, we really dressed up the outside courtyard. Something we admired about this mid-century modern wedding reception was how chill and casual things were. Instead of going all-out on details and decor, Kathryn and Carleton chose to focus primarily on the experience for their guests. Their main focus for this night was to spend quality time with those they love. They totally nailed it! The entire night guests were sharing stories, laughing, and forming memories for a lifetime. Our favorite kind of night!!
We LOVED putting together the designs for Kathryn and Carleton’s wedding reception flowers. Their color palette was bold, fun, and unique. We were able to use a variety of colorful blooms, making this whole event a blast for us in the floral shop! Farm tables and bistro chairs were set out for guests to dine at. We loved getting to spice up each table with gorgeous and colorful centerpieces! We had an incredibly fun color palette to work with: peach, burgundy, orange, yellow, lavender, cream, and greens. Each arrangement we created was slightly different, which we absolutely loved. We did a mix of arrangements in vases, larger centerpieces, and stems designed in floral frogs. And let me just tell you, they looked SO good together on those tables!
One of our favorite details that our couple paid special attention to was their desserts. They brought in some adorable cupcakes that were almost too pretty to eat!! Seriously a 90s dream. Close friends and family shared sweet memories, spent time catching up, and toasted to the couple before everyone got ready to party. The band Kathryn and Carleton chose was SO fun and high-energy, they really kept the party going! Guests had such a blast.
This fun, laid back mid-century modern wedding reception reminded us how important it is to spend time with the ones you love. Life gets busy and it can be SO hard to find time to make it to family dinners or meet up with friends for lunch, but those are the little pieces of life that make it worth living. Events like wedding receptions are so special because of how many people they bring together. It is amazing to see just how many loved ones rally behind each and every one of our couples. We just LOVE our job so much and are lucky to constantly be surrounded by love, joy, and gorgeous flowers!
