Hiring any vendor for your wedding day is a huge investment. It can be daunting thinking about how to find them, what questions to ask and ultimately, how to know if they are “the one”!
You may be wondering what to look for in a wedding florist, and how to find out if they are the right fit for you and your wedding vision.
We have worked with many different brides who have all chosen vendors for their special day. It is an important decision that shouldn’t be taken lightly! As wedding vendors, we are all about working with couples who we can serve well. If we feel we may not be the best fit, we are honest with our couples and let them know! Our number one priority is that you have a dream team of vendors that resonate with your wedding style and can fulfill your expectations.
It took us years to hone in on the right questions to ask (and answer) to determine whether or not we will work well with our potential brides, so we wanted to share all of our insider tips for figuring out if a particular florist is the perfect match for you! If you are a florist reading this, take note of these questions to ask yourself/your client to discover if you can serve them well.
Let’s dive right into what to look for in a wedding florist!

1. Do you love their style?
This one is sort of obvious, but it’s worth mentioning that in order for you to love a particular florist, you have to love their style! Being referred by a friend or choosing them based on cost alone isn’t usually the best way to make such an important decision. Now, this doesn’t have to mean you want them to 100% recreate a particular bouquet from their Instagram feed – this means the overall feeling you get from looking at their designs is JOY. Because that’s what flowers should bring to a wedding – joy through their beauty. So really, the first question you should ask is: “do their designs bring me joy?”
2. Do they have a good reputation?
It’s so important to work with professionals that have a good reputation! Obviously when florists are first starting out, they won’t have reviews and past brides to look to. But if a florist is hard to work with or not straightforward with their policies, it’s usually pretty obvious by how they are referred by their previous clients. Even though I mentioned not going off of referrals alone, referrals are the best way to gauge their professionalism and honesty as a business. It will also give you a look into how stress-free the process of working with them will be.
3. Do you trust them?
This one is SO important! As a bride, you don’t want to be worried or stressed leading up to your wedding day because you don’t know if your flowers are going to turn out how you want them to. Trusting your florist is crucial not only for peace of mind in the days leading up to your wedding, but also for how the final product turns out. A florist who is micro-managed and stifled will end up creating something that’s uninspired and boring. Creating unique, breathtaking works of floral art is all about having the freedom to do so and feeling trusted by the couples who hire you.
There are a few ways we make sure this is possible. One, we always design a very comprehensive, detailed, insanely visual proposal. This way we know our couples are getting a thorough idea for how the flowers will turn out. And they also feel confident that we understand their vision and will capture it perfectly. Two, we communicate openly and discuss any concerns they may have right away! Being transparent about our process and why we’re passionate about what we do is they key to gaining our couples trust.
Look for both of these things when searching for your florist, and it will help you feel relaxed and excited about your decision!
4. Are they excited to create for you?
Being able to design for weddings is a huge honor to us – and to all the florists we know. Serving our couples to the best of our ability is our #1 priority! We get excited about the possibility of working with every couple who contacts us. There’s honestly nothing like bringing in a bridal bouquet on the wedding day and seeing the joy in a bride’s eyes – it’s magic! And we are so overjoyed every single time.
Choose a florist who is genuinely excited to create for you! Your experience planning your wedding should be filled with genuine happiness and enthusiasm.
5. Do they communicate openly about budget?
As a bride, this topic is probably the least exciting to discuss, as it can be stressful and awkward. In our experience, the best way to approach budget is to be honest and transparent! Florist’s prices can vary quite a bit based on factors like location, overhead, season, floral choice, experience and volume. Look for a florist who is willing to communicate about budgets and pricing. Keep in mind that high quality florals are an investment. A great florist will give you realistic expectations and help you understand what’s possible within your budget. After all, it’s probably your first time doing this whole thing and there’s a lot to learn!
